Prof. Laura Yerekesheva graduated with honors from the Faculty of History (special department, with in-depth study of the English language) of KazGU / al-Farabi KazNU, completed postgraduate programme at IAAS, M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University. Areas of research interest include cultural identity, nation-building, the “Other”, history of art of Central Asia, cross-cultural and religious encounters between Central and South Asia. She has contributed to several UNESCO programmes as an author, expert and consultant. Currently she is a member of the Scientific Panel of the UNESCO Youth Research Grant (2023). Dr. Laura Yerekesheva is the author and (co)editor of several monographs and articles published in international peer-reviewed journals. She is/was also a principal investigator in research projects both in Kazakhstan and abroad including by UNESCO Almaty Office (2005, 2013, 2019); Georgetown University-Qatar (2018-2019). She was a winner of several fellowships worldwide: at the Indian Institute of Heritage (former National Museum Institute) as an ICCR Senior Research Fellow, Delhi (2022-2023), FMSH Scholar in Residence, DEA Programme, Paris (May-June 2023), Visiting Fellow, Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla (2010-2011), Yale University (New Haven, USA) as a Fulbright Scholar (2002-2003), and Visiting Fellow (2001); Central European University, Budapest, Hungary (2000, 2001), etc. She was awarded “Distinguished ICCR Fellow 2016” (India, 2017), “For merits in the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan” by Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2017), winner of the competition “Best Researcher of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2022).
